Jean Valjean or Javert

Janet Kuypers
6/13/25

President Trump and his wife,
First Lady Melania, walked on the
Red carpet in front of the Kennedy
Center before stepping in to see
Les Misérables, stopped for the
Pops      of camera flashes & took
Questions like they were actors
                  (and maybe they are).
Trump told Fox News Digital* the
Week before, “I love the songs,
I love the play. I think it’s great.”
So a reporter there asked him,
“Do you identify more with Jean
Valjean or Javert?” This is when
I think Trump felt like a deer in
Headlights, when he answered,
“Oh, that’s a tough one, the last
Part of that question.        That’s
Tough... I think...” Then he turned
To his wife and said, “I think you
Better, you better answer that one
Honey.”        Priceless. (Nice move,
Entertainer-in-Chief, throwing
Your wife under the bus like that.)

This is what I think is funny here,
That he doesn’t know anything
About the characters in a play
That he says he loves, that he’s
On his way to watch — again,
Presumably, but the better point
Here is that he didn’t know if he
Resembles the hero or the villain.

(Okay, okay, it’s been decades
Since I’ve seen it, so as a Les
Miz refresher, Jean Valjean’s the
Hero, and Inspector Javert is the
Antagonist, though Javert can be
Considered a complicated villain.)
That may be more priceless than
Not knowing the play, that Trump
Can’t say if he’s the hero, or the
“Complicated” villain.     Priceless.
