I identify as “shop worker”

Paul Tanner

just checked my privilege:
I’m not black, gay or a woman
but let’s say I am.
let’s pretend I’m any race or gender or sexuality.
I could be a multi-heritage trans helicopter

but I’d still have to work in a shop,
where any of you woke folk
can threaten me
and throw coins at me
and make fun of my appearance
because, say, your vouchers have expired.

maybe we should make “shop worker”
a gender or race or sexuality?
maybe then you’ll finally see
just how privileged all you cis-customers are,
regardless of how any of us looks.

in the meantime, it’s a real privilege
to be named and shamed on Facebook
for bullying YOU:

as the high street dies
a little more every day

and we evil shop workers
get closer and closer
to being officially cancelled.

please?
