Sober is as sober seems; a way of work in regimented movements, a move to mass leisure earned one weld at a time. It’s a ritual, a meditation, a pathwork to the jungle drums of snapping metal: melt and cool, melt and cool, the burnt umbilicus and breached daily birth. The factory is a fact, but it’s also a fiction, a fixed point in a fumbling universe, a fake projection of real life, a fever dream of waking. Sober is as sober decides; the rhythmic motion of sex in sleep; endless reproduction, reproduction, reproduction of facsimiles, losing details with each iteration. Sober is as sober does; mouth dry, hands cracked, and nerves jangling like the keys to old flats, cars, bicycles, money boxes; the key to the cabinet high on the wall, the key to the machine.
