Chicago poet and Austin resident Janet Kuypers returned to Chicago in the beginning of August in 2023, and was honored with the opportunity to be the primary feature in a poetry bonus week event at Tangible Books (3324 S. Halsted, Bridgeport, IL) wth host Vittorio Carli on Saturday evening, August 12^th 2023.

    Janet Kuypers during this evening performed her feature “Closing the Book on Women’s Rights”, which contained new poetry from the CyberWit 2023 Janet Kuypers book “Testament” — of select poems form Part One (the largest part of this new book), sharing poetry with details and insights about the unraveling of the rights of so many people in the U.S. after the Supreme Court overturning of Roe v. Wade, the the beginning of her final week in Chicago highlighting this book and the 1-year anniverssry since the Dobbs v. Jackson ruling — after previous features 6/28/23 with “Fighting for Justice” in Hot Springs, AR, and her 7/2/23 “Beach Poets” poetry feature “Bringing women’s Battles to the Beach”, her “Into the Spotlight” feature on 8/9/23 at The Gallery Cabaret, and her 8/12/23 “Testament on WZRD Chicago Radio show interview 8/12/23 — earlier in the day before her Tangible Books bookstore feature reading.

    During the evening, not only did Janet Kuypers read poems from part 1 of her book “Testament” for her feature “Closing the Book on Women’s Rights”, but of these poems, 1 poem from the Down in the Dirt v209 7/23 book “Lonely Visitor”, and 1 poem also appearing in the cc&d 1-4/23 issue collection book a Mural of a Forest” (and these books were displayed during the live show as well).
